New to pull rates? The terms in 30 seconds
“1 in 92 packs”
On average, you'd open 92 packs to pull one. It's an average, not a promise: you could hit it in pack 3 or go 300 without one.
SIR (Special Illustration Rare)
Full-art cards with special artwork. Usually a set's most valuable pulls.
IR (Illustration Rare)
Art cards of single Pokémon. More common than SIRs, and often collected as a set.
Hyper Rare
The gold cards. Among the rarest pulls in modern sets.
Double Rare / Ultra Rare
The ex and full-art cards that make up most of a set's hits.
Booster box / ETB
A booster box has 36 packs. An Elite Trainer Box (ETB) has 9, plus sleeves and accessories.

Charizard ex is one of the most searched cards in the Pokémon TCG, and “Charizard ex” covers several very different cards. In 151, the most popular set it appears in, the same Charizard ex comes in three versions that sell for anywhere from about $8.62 to $320.91. Here’s what each one costs today, and what it would take to pull it yourself.

Key takeaways

  • Charizard ex Special Illustration Rare (151 #199): $320.91. About 1 in 225 packs.
  • Charizard ex full-art Ultra Rare (151 #183): $38.54. About 1 in 248 packs.
  • Charizard ex Double Rare (151 #006): $8.62. About 1 in 90 packs.
  • At today’s loose-pack price of $28.47, pulling the Special Illustration Rare costs about $6,408 on average. Buying it costs $320.91.
  • Prices are for ungraded cards. Graded copies, especially PSA 10s, sell for much more.

Charizard ex prices, version by version#

Every Charizard in the sets we track, most valuable first. “Average cost to pull it” assumes you could buy packs at MSRP ($4.49), which for 151 you mostly can’t anymore; more on that below.

Ungraded (raw) TCGplayer market prices as of Oct 12, 2026, from the sets we track. Odds assume every card in a rarity is equally likely; cost to pull uses each set's pack MSRP.

The 30th Celebration card in the list is a Classic Collection reprint of the original Base Set Charizard, not a Charizard ex, but it’s often searched alongside it.

Why the versions are priced so differently#

All three 151 cards show the same Pokémon with the same attacks. The price gap comes from rarity and art:

  • The Double Rare (#006) is the regular ex card with a standard frame. It’s the most common of the three, about 1 in 90 packs.
  • The Ultra Rare (#183) is a full-art version with a textured surface.
  • The Special Illustration Rare (#199) has full, unique artwork that extends across the card. SIRs are the chase cards of modern sets, and Charizard is the most popular Pokémon to chase.

What it costs to pull Charizard ex yourself#

151 was released in September 2023 and is no longer widely on store shelves, so most people buy its packs on the secondary market. A loose 151 pack sells for about $28.47 today, far above its $4.49 MSRP.

At that price, the averages look like this:

  • Special Illustration Rare: about 1 in 225 packs, or $6,408 on average, for a card that sells for $320.91.
  • Ultra Rare: about 1 in 248 packs, or $7,073, for a $38.54 card.
  • Double Rare: about 1 in 90 packs, or $2,573, for a $8.62 card.

Even at MSRP, the Special Illustration Rare would average about $1,011 to pull. Either way, buying the single is far cheaper.

Your odds by 151 product#

Other Charizard ex cards#

Charizard ex also appears in sets we don’t track yet, including Obsidian Flames, Paldean Fates and several promos. Their prices differ a lot from the 151 versions, so when you look one up, search the set name and collector number together. Our guide to checking Pokémon card prices shows how.

Where these numbers come from#

Prices are TCGplayer market prices for ungraded, Near Mint cards, refreshed in our price tracker. Pull odds come from verified 151 openings on our 151 set page, split evenly across the cards in each rarity. Graded copies, especially PSA 10s, sell for much more than these raw prices.

Pull rates and card prices in this article come from our evidence registry and were last checked on Oct 7, 2026. Figures from outside sources, like grading fees, link to where they came from. Rates update as new verified openings come in; see our methodology for how we combine studies. Probabilities are estimates from published samples, not guarantees. Not financial advice.
